Happy New Year from Fifi + Hop! New year, new decade…2020, let’s go.
For the past several years my family and I have been coming down to Naples, Florida after Christmas and celebrating the new year here with siblings, cousins and grandparents. It’s the only time of year we’re all together at the same time, and the cousins have a blast.
I’ve been coming to Naples since I was 5 or 6 (my grandparents on both sides of the family used to come to Naples), and still have vivid memories of racing around with my siblings and cousins, and friends who we only saw once a year here, and getting into all sorts of mischief. There are so many fun, hilarious and carefree memories to reflect upon, and I love that my kids have been, and will continue to, experience the same thing in the same place.
There’s a lot to be said for having these special places in your life that you return to again and again, generation after generation…to be so connected to a place, and to see your own children develop that connection too. It’s truly heart-warming.
We all know how much I love to travel, but having these special places in our lives, such as beautiful Naples for me, is also equally as important to me. To have a connection to a place that is so meaningful is such a wonderful thing to have. It’s not all about the beach for us – there are so many things we love to do here each year, including the Naples Botanical Gardens, the town zoo, walking down the record-long pier, dining in excellent restaurants, visiting Corkscrew Swamp, the Everglades, and so much more. I feel very lucky that I have a place like Naples in my life.
I also feel lucky, and am incredibly grateful for the fact that I can return to Naples again and again, and also be able to travel the world with my family when we’re able to. To have that combination of experiences – that of returning to a place that stirs up such nostalgia – as well as exploring new places that stir up all the curiosity and wonderment that I so love about travel – it’s amazing to have both.
2020, here we go. I’m so excited to see what the new decade brings for us in this world, and grateful for all that my family and I have.
Happy New Year!
