Travel the Hudson Valley by Train with the Help of a New Mobile App

I love exploring New York’s Hudson Valley. There is so much to see. From the Hudson River towns to the countryside to art spaces to some of the best hiking around, there is a lot to discover. So when I heard about the new Hudson River Train Tour mobile app, I just had to download it and check it out for myself…and then hopped on the train. If you’re planning a Hudson Valley getaway, take the train!

Between New York City and Albany, a world of history, nature, and culture awaits you. And there’s no better way to experience it all than by riding a train. Part travel guide, part audio tour, the free #HudsonRiverTrainTour app tells you all about what you’ll see out that train window – like castles, lighthouses, mansions, and hundreds of other historic, natural, and cultural attractions.

Additional features include:

  •  A map marking site locations. Using location services, the app will tell you about the sites you’re approaching in real time.
  •  Search for places that fit into significant regional themes, such as Freedom & Dignity, Nature & Culture, and Corridor of Commerce.
  •  “Voices of the Hudson” audio series – listen to stories as you watch the world from the window.

The Hudson Valley is one of my favorite places to travel, and though I’ve been to a bunch of places on the app, including Untermyer Gardens, Storm King, Walkway Over the Hudson, Esopus Island and more, I still learned so much about those places and beyond. If you’re a history buff like me, then you’ll love the app. Who knew that the popular term “up the river” (referring to “sent to prison”) came about from our very own Hudson River! It refers directly to the convicted criminals who had to make the journey from NYC to Sing Sing prison. It’s little factoids like that that I really enjoy about the app. Things I wouldn’t have known otherwise.
